When Helping Yourself isn’t Enough
Sometimes people need more than the information given to them. Guidance, clarification, and motivation are common reasons for seeking extra help. A visitor or even a telephone call to a counsellor who is trained to help problem gamblers may make all the difference.
If you are experiencing thoughts of self harm or suicide it is important to seek immediate help.
In Australia contact either Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Kids Help Line (if you are under 18 years old) on 1800 55 1800.
Both of these services can help you or, if necessary, refer you on to appropriate mental health support networks. Other crisis line numbers will be found in the front section of public telephone books.

Nik Halik Stock Market Mentor

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

1. Can you guarantee I will generate money using your analysis system?
No, and I won’t trade for you either. You have to do that yourself. You need to have the personal motivation and focus to get out of bed in the morning and want to be a successful investor.
So can YOU guarantee your success? Answer- Yes. By taking action on what you learn. Then again, if you don’t learn it, you’ll have nothing to take action on now will you? (A great reason to be a part of this fascinating education)

The Ordinary Fear of God

Friday, January 27th, 2006

As a pub rocker, Crowe makes a good actor
RUSSELL CROWE and his band, The Ordinary Fear of God, received a round of applause as they took to the stage at Byron Bay on Saturday night. But the Oscar-winning actor’s opening number, a song about his wife Danielle called Weight of a Man, failed to impress the Scottish lass standing next to me. “He leaves us waiting until half past ten then opens with a ballad!” she exclaimed in disgust. “He’s The Gladiator! He should be playing some hard rock or metal… something manly!”
A quick survey revealed an eclectic crowd of young and old with varying expectations of the show. A trio of youngish backpackers from the [...]

US ‘war profiteer’ wins Byron deal
Kevin Meade
January 16, 2006
IT’S enough to make the hippies and peaceniks of Byron Bay choke on their organic muesli. Byron Bay Shire Council has awarded a contract to a subsidiary of Halliburton, the multinational formerly headed by US Vice-President Dick Cheney and condemned by anti-war activists as a major profiteer in the Iraq war.
The hip northern NSW beach town, long a haven for anti-war activists, made history in 2004 by becoming the first place in NSW to elect a Green mayor, Jan Barham. But Ms Barham, one of three Green councillors who voted in favour of awarding a contract for a sewage treatment plant to Halliburton subsidiary KBR about three months ago, was [...]

Heavy rain brings flash flood warning

Friday, January 20th, 2006

A flash flood warning has been issued for the New South Wales Northern Rivers.
Heavy rain has fallen overnight, with some areas recording more than 200 millimetres. Scott Hanckel, from the State Emergency Service, is warning people to be extremely careful on the roads, not to drive through water, and to stay away from creeks and drains.
“A small amount of water got into half a dozen shops in the main street of Byron Bay this morning which coincided with the high tides down there that has receded as I understand it, but there’s lots of water on the roads at the moment in the Brunswick area, particularly in the Ocean Shores, South Golden Beach and in the upper reaches,” he said.

Learn to surf in Byron Bay

Friday, January 13th, 2006

Meet Rusty Miller.
Rusty proved how well he could hold his own on a wave when he became United States surfing champion in 1965. A few years later he migrated to Australia and since the early 1970s he has been teaching people to surf on the waves around Byron Bay. He is known around town as a bit of a legend, and after spending a few hours on the beach with him learning to surf, you get the impression there are very few locals he doesn’t know.
So what’s so great about riding a board on a wave, and why are so many people deciding to take it up?
Surfing Australia estimates that around a quarter of a million people graduated [...]

Flouride in the Water

Monday, January 9th, 2006

A FLUORIDE debate is raging across Queensland and parts of northern NSW, where health chiefs have joined those in Victoria in seeking to force the introduction of fluoride. North East Water has been instructed by the Victorian Government to fluoridate Wodonga and Wangaratta water supplies as soon as possible.
It is expected the necessary works will be done within six months, and that other towns such as Yarrawonga and Benalla will follow suit. The Bracks Government has decreed fluoridation must be done and that the decision has been made, though the anti-fluoride lobby continues its campaign.
An estimated 77 per cent of Victorians use fluoridated water, with Geelong, Ballarat, Benalla, Warrnambool and Wodonga being notable exceptions. In [...]

Okanui Surfwear For Sale

Monday, January 9th, 2006

OKANUI, the Australian surfwear label synonymous with baggy board shorts covered in hibiscus flowers, is up for sale. Founder and boss Dick Ash confirmed yesterday the surfwear maker he founded in his Avalon garage in the late 1960s was on the market. “The reason why I’m selling is simply, I guess, to use that terrible cliche, it’s a bit of a sea change,” Mr Ash said.
“My wife’s an artist, I’m a photographer and I’m 60 next year and I have to have my surf each day and you get to a stage where it’s ‘am I going to pack board shorts for the rest of my life?’.” Mr Ash declined to comment on the likelihood of a sale and the [...]

New Years Eve

Monday, January 9th, 2006

It’s the biggest night of the year in one of Australia’s party hotspots - yet the invitation says no alcohol and no fireworks.
Instead, the entertainment for New Year’s Eve festivities in the NSW resort town of Byron Bay will include children’s rides and jumping castles, street stalls, a community parade and a variety of music including rock, reggae and Polynesian. This year the town, a top destination with both domestic tourists and overseas backpackers, is reverting to a low-key, family and community orientated New Year’s Eve. Alcohol will again be prohibited in parks and reserves adjoining the town centre, following NSW government approval. And, police have been given special powers to crack down on anti-social behaviour.
The December 31 party, which [...]
