Byron Bay’s ugly image has returned with a violent night of fighting on Friday. The town’s streets resembled a war zone on Friday night with over 300 drunken youths brawling along Jonson Street and in Apex Park. Byron Bay police had to call for back-up after 300 youths from Byron Bay, Lismore, Ballina, Yamba, Ocean Shores and Mullumbimby gathered in Apex Park, Byron Bay around 9.30pm. “A series of text messages were used inviting youth to meet in Byron Bay in relation to a ‘big brawl’.” Eight people were arrested on the night, police said, and numerous move on orders given, but there were no police injuries recorded.
