Vanessa Wagner is one of Australia’s most colourful and entertaining identities. She started as a dedicated housewife and part time hostess. Vanessa was crowned Sydney Mardi Gras Miss Fair Day 1993. For seven years she coordinated and hosted the spectacularly successful Drag Race Meet at Bondi Beach for the Sydney Fringe Festival. From early 1993 till 1996 Vanessa captivated audiences with Jamie and Vanessa parties and stage shows. Vanessa now produces her own parties, events and shows. She is proud dance mistress of her very own Crystal Stepz Dance Company, creating works of a kind rarely seen! Her sell out hit dance show, Vanessa Wagner’s History of Dance broke box office records and may become a film.

Banning Alcohol?

AUSTRALIA’S most popular tourist town, Byron Bay, has banned “shots” of alcohol from being served at bars and clubs. The ban is the latest restriction in a town that has been accused of being the “grinch of fun”. On New Year’s Eve it banned alcohol and fireworks from its annual street party. Jet-skis are also not allowed, and nor, in some parts, is fishing. The latest move follows a police crackdown on drunken behaviour.
The well-known Beach Hotel, the Great Northern Hotel, the Railway Friendly Hotel and Cheeky Monkey’s Bar and Restaurant were charged in August with having drunk people on their premises. They face a total of $80,000 in fines when they face Sydney’s Liquor Licensing Board. [...]

The American Pie actress Tara Reid was snapped lapping up the sunshine in Byron Bay. Athletic Tara Reid showed how she manages to maintain her fabulous figure, running along the beach and throwing a rugby ball around before diving into the surf to catch some waves on her bodyboard. Tara Reid, 31, jetted into Australia to attend the glitzy Magic Millions racing carnival held in the town. “I’m having such a great time here. Everything has been awesome, especially the people,” Tara Reid said.

Mosaic

MOSAIC will be joined on stage at the Byron Bay Beach Resort by their musical collaborator, Kenyan percussionist Bandika Ngao, to perform original material from their new album release “Colours of Kenya”, and from their previous CD “Common Ground”. Their unique sound explores influences ranging from African to Jewish, Brazilian to American music, with a particular focus on beautiful vocal textures, underpinned by a fantastic rhythm section.
“Mosaic are a unique group - an inspired collaborative project that combines plenty of creative jazz chops with sublime vocals. On this latest recording the masterful percussive contribution of Kenya’s Bandika Ngao adds an extra layer of subtle rhythmic inventiveness to Mosaic’s impressive work.”

Police Arrests

Four people have been charged following a police operation at Byron Bay in the state’s north. Police from Tweed/Bryon Local Area Command have conducted extensive investigations as part of Operation Cull. The Operation aims at cracking-down on anti-social behaviour in and around the Bryon Bay CBD and has been running since early December.
The following arrests have been made:
• A 16-year-old Byron Bay male youth charged with assault. He’s been granted conditional bail, to appear at Byron Bay Children’s Court
• A 17-year-old Suffolk Park male youth charged with malicious damage. He’s been granted conditional bail, to appear at Byron Bay Children’s Court
• An 18-year-old Suffolk Park man charged with trespass. He’s been granted conditional bail, to appear at Byron Bay Local [...]

New Years Eve Party

Byron Bay’s bid to shed its reputation as a New Year’s Eve party town appears to be working. Police say an estimated 10,000 revellers packed the town centre, but just 12 arrests were made. The charges laid included offensive behaviour, possession of prohibited drugs and drink-driving. Inspector Greg Jago says police were happy with the crowd’s behaviour and the council’s campaign to stage a more family friendly event was a success… (Source ABC North Coast)
