Nightclubs in Byron bay
Safety audits to focus on Byron Bay nightclubs. There is a plan to conduct safety audits of Byron Bay’s nightclubs and pubs.
Registered clubs have been contacted to be a part of the audit, which involves women scoring the premises on the basis of how safe they feel.
It is an initiative that has cut assaults by 25 per cent in Albury-Wodonga and is being considered locally by the Richmond Sexual Assault Service. Spokeswoman Sharron Brodie says it is an incentive-based approach to improving safety.
“What they were looking at was the sense of safety that the women had when they where visiting the nightclubs and they established an award scheme where a group of women would go in and do an audit and then an award would be given to the top nightclub where women felt the safest,” she said.
