Zen Player
Zen Player considers himself a Sensualist. His works are a playful yet focused exploration of what ignites our deep desires, our connection with and passion for Life. At times he employs whimsical elements to bump our funny-bone, other times submerges us into the pure vibrancy of color. Always his surfaces are fascinating, with balanced and harmonious use of imagery and space.
Zen naturally evokes in us our own playful and sensual nature, which is usually hidden but always ready to unfurl when we feel permission to just BE.
His complex canvases spin a magical tale of mindless spontaneity, his flawless craftsmanship emanates in every stroke, every detail of the work – from dozens of layers of glazed color, gold leaf, glitter and fine silk strands of antique kimono, to the hand-shaped frames that have been a unique trademark for over 20 years.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in San Luis Obispo, Zen (originally named Kim) began his creative odyssey at age 3 when his natural talent for drawing and his a-cute color sense was first noticed.
Though temporarily daunted by an emotionally disturbed art teacher in high school, he made the decision to become a professional artist at age 15 – the same age that he left school. By the time Zen was 20 he had staged five exhibitions (in New Zealand), had won several awards and among others, was included in the collections of the Royal Danish Consulate and the Lord Mayor of Auckland.
