Rukkus Festival Mullumbimby
Making a ruckus at Mullumbimby
The Byron Youth Activities Centre (YAC) will present the second Rukkus Festival at the Mullumbimby Skate Park on Saturday. Rukkus is a drug and alcohol free event and the only all-ages music event in Mullumbimby. Organiser, 15-year-old Bailey Johnson from Mullumbimby High said that Rukkus was born out of frustration last year because there was nothing going on in Mullumbimby. “We just decided to have our own event and learnt as we went along how to go about putting it on,” Bailey said.
Bands this year include Brittle FX and Puss, as well as local DJ’s Taya, Ungie and Jackie Onassid. Rukkus will also feature four categories for skate competitors U/9, U/12, U/16 and Open from 2pm-5pm. Sign on is from 12.30pm and entry is $5 which includes a sausage sandwich and a drink. There will also be market stalls, a free slip and slide, watermelon helmets from the BYS Youth Club tipi and a chill-out marquee. Buses will be available from Byron Bay and the north of the shire.
