The Exquisite Beast
It’s Midwinter, the time of year when Persephone travels to the underworld and ritual celebrations follow the shortest day of the year as we head towards spring and times of harvest and fertility. This transformation of the seasons is being mirrored in Laura Skerlj’s debut solo ‘The Exquisite Beast’ and a fantastic group show now on at Retrospect Galleries highlighting metamorphosis, hybridity, folklore, shape shifting and the darkly poetic emergence of the feminine subconscious in art.
We invite you to join us for an exciting panel with four of our beloved women artists who will discuss the inspiration and processes held in their subconscious and what they draw on to create their multi-layered masterpieces. Retrospect Galleries Curator Bree Delian will host this talk and the panel consists of Michelle Dawson, (shortlisted for the CBA 2009 Crichton Award for Best New Illustrator) Hilary Herrmann, Cornelia Burless (finalist in the Prometheus art award 2009) and Laura Skerlj. We invite audience involvement and will be taking questions from the floor.
The talk will be held at Retrospect Galleries on Sunday 6th July at 1 pm and tickets will be limited to 30. We only have about 10 tickets left, so please book your place now. Cost is $15 including aromatic mulled wine and sumptuous fruits.
Please call us on 6680 8825 or email us at admin@retrospectgalleries.com to secure your place.
Do not reply to this email as we won’t get it!
We look forward to seeing you there
